Regarding: Proposed Motocross Raceway at Governor's Run Sports Park
Proposed Location: Approximately 4 miles or less north of Route 360 located directly off of Route 30 between the Upper King William Senior Center and the VFW Post 9501 (Tax Map Parcel 20-27, owned by K.W. Morrison, LLC).
I, the undersigned adult resident of King William County, oppose the K.W. Morrison, LLC. request to develop a motocross raceway in King William County. I urge the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors to vote "No." No set of conditions or restrictions could make this tolerable.
The proposal does not meet the appearance, development quality, or long term goals needed increase the value and appeal of the surrounding properties or the county in general (e.g. residents near the facility may likely experience a decline in property value).
Motocross tracks will cause intrusive noise, thereby interfering with residents' ability and right to enjoy their properties and homes without excessive disturbance. Citizens of King William County will not only have to deal with an increase in noise, but also face a significant increase in traffic volume.
The park will experience its highest volume during the weekends and evenings when surrounding residents are most likely to be in and around their homes.
The majority of visitors to the proposed park will not be residents of King William County or the State of Virginia. As a result, they are less likely to care about our community and the well being and safety of its citizens.
Motocross races are typically conducted on raw land with no surrounding structure, and as a result few barriers exist to protect the surrounding environment from potential fuel/oil spills and increased pollution from the considerable number of off-road vehicles being used.
Due to the risk associated with the sport, our local fire and rescue squads may be over burdened by incidents occurring at the facility. This occupies emergency resources that should be available to the citizens of King William County that fund these services.
