Citizens of King William County:

A limited liability corporation (KW Morrison, LLC) has acquired land in King William to develop a large, four-track motocross raceway, including parking for over 500 vehicles. This party argues that placing this facility in our backyards will benefit the citizens of King William. Many King William residents disagree and are fighting this raceway. Access to the raceway would be off Route 30 between the Upper King William Senior Center and the VFW Post 9501, approximately 4 miles north of Route 360.

Reasons to oppose this development:

  • The proposed complex would violate the letter and spirit of the current King William County Comprehensive Plan by placing a commercial enterprise in the middle of an agricultural and residential community.
  • The raceway will cause intrusive noise, ultimately interfering with residents' ability and right to enjoy their properties and homes.
  • There are numerous environmental risks associated with the leakage of gasoline, oil, and other contaminants released by the vehicles used at this raceway. This exposes the surrounding soil, water table, and wetlands to pollutants.
  • The pollution and noise would interfere with local farmers' ability to raise livestock and cultivate healthy crops and would negatively impact wildlife.
  • The associated traffic at the proposed entrance, which is in a blind curve will likely increase the risk of accidents and delays.
  • Alcohol will be allowed at this facility, increasing the risk for alcohol related incidents in the county.
  • The inherent risks associated with motocross racing will require significant fire, police and rescue resources, which may overburden.
